Change the World 2008

Harnessing BIM Technology and Integrated Project Delivery for Sustainable Design

We are sitting in the Breakfast Plenary Session: BIM Storm Eco. The presenters have titled the presentation BIMstorm: BIM for the people.

The discussion is essentially about Open Standards. Its about people across the world collaborating in real-time. The more and faster you share information with others the more relevant you are.

During the session the audience has been logging on to http://BIMstorm.com/mobile and creating BIM models that are being populated live in the Boston area.

Someone in the audience inserted a spire with 350 floors ...man I wish i would have thought of that.

I haven’t seen the building I created pop up on Google Earth yet.

I think I'll look up this software when I get back to work.

"The purpose of this exercise is not to determine the final design, but "creating train wrecks ahead of time."

What about, "If everything seems to be going fine, you're not moving fast enough."

There's another statement I want to investigate after this conference: 'even Sketch Up has an IFC-in'

My favorite comment of the session:

"If you wait till the technology's perfect then you will just be too late. It's like saying-I'm not using the internet because it's not done yet."

I think this speaks volumes to some of the attitudes I have experienced in the field today.
