About Me:
Philip Bona: Assistant Vice President of Architecture and Planning
Philip Bona joined CCDC in June 2007, and currently serves as the Corporation’s Assistant Vice President of Architecture and Planning. Before joining CCDC, Mr. Bona worked 33 years in architecture and urban planning for various architectural and engineering firms in the San Francisco Bay area. He has enjoyed a diverse architectural design practice for the public and private sectors. Mr. Bona has been very active in the American Institute of Architects organization at the national, state, and local levels and is also active in the American Planning Association, the Urban Land Institute and the U.S. Green Building Council.
Currently he oversees a team of 10 staff members who are responsible for managing the entitlement and permitting process for all new projects in the downtown as well as maintaining and updating the Planned District Ordinance, the Community Plan, and the various neighborhood design guidelines. Some of the highlights of Mr. Bona’s current assignments include oversight of the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan, the Civic Center Needs Assessment Project, the Downtown Education Taskforce, the downtown Parks Needs Assessment, and the Neighborhood Design Guidelines.
Mr. Bona has recently served as Vice President for Legislative Affairs of the California Council of the American Institute of Architects, is a Regent on the California Architectural Foundation Board, and chairs numerous committees on urban design and sustainability. He is well published and has taught at a community college.
Mr. Bona received a B.A. Degree in Architecture, a Masters of Architecture, and the John K. Branner Fellowship from U.C. Berkeley. In his free time, Mr. Bona enjoys traveling with his wife, bicycling and kayaking.
