I've already been able to connect with several people that I did not know were at the convention. In fact, I'll be meeting one of them shortly.
I think the AIA needs a crash course in Digital Literacy. If the organizations is going to "get it" then it has to not only know about the tools of our digital era but understand the mindset, value and USE them.
The digital world is about interaction, connection, conversation, collaboration and community.
I applaud the AIA for taking the step and using Ning as a social network site. I think it also reveal that we are hard core Digital Immigrants in a world quickly populated by Digital Natives.
I've attached an article from Futurist Magazine outlining the different mindsets for those born in a print culture (builders and early boomers), broadcast culture (boomers and early GenX) and digitial (late GenX, GenY and iGeneration).
